The Secret History of the Eastern Han Dynasty, together with The Secret History of the Ancient World, The Secret History of the Two Jin Dynasties, The Secret History of the Southern Dynasties, and The Secret History of the Imperial Qing Dynasty, is an intergenerational historical drama. Starting from the origin of Wang Mang, it narrates the succession of twelve emperors of the Eastern Han Dynasty, focusing on the story of Guangwu's rise to power. This book is based on the structure of Quan Han Zhi Zhuan (Biography of the whole Han Dynasty) and Zhongxing Zhi Zhi (Biography of the founding of the two Han dynasties), with some additions.
